Allotment to farming

Each returned soldier was allocated a Lot. This Lot then became a farm with most families giving their farm a name.

There were 3 estates - Whitemark, Emita and Furneaux.

The Whitemark estate was acquired from Mrs W.L.Virieux.

The Emita Estate was acquired from Mr. Grant Hay and consisted of 3 mini estates - The Quoin, Fairhaven and Kentdale.

The Furneaux Estate was acquired through extensive land development of virgin swampy bushland. The Furneaux estate was divided into 4 sections - Section A, B, C and D. Due to the extensive project settlement came in two "waves". The earlier farms were settled in the 1950's, the later farms towards the end of the 1960's.

There were originally 88 farms - 8 were dairy farms and 80 were sheep and cattle blocks.
